Episode 36: Better Off Dead

If only we could conquer the K-12, we could win back Beth....because without her is life worth living?    


This week we are trying some new ingredients in a well blended cocktail and trying to navigate our way through a pretty whacky high school story about love loss.    


Join us as we shower in our socks, try on an aardvark sweater, have some boiled bacon, pour some Chartreuse, ski on one ski, find a new love, and have a chat about Better Off Dead!    


This week's cocktail comes from The Crow's Nest via the River Front Times!

Ingredients

  • .5oz St. Germaine 
  • .5oz Chartreuse 
  • .5oz Gran Marnier 
  • .75oz Absinthe 
  • .75oz Lemon Juice 
  • Float Champagne

Instructions

  • In a rocks or cocktail glass with ice, combine all ingredients then top with the champagne.

Episode 35: The Argo

During the Iranian Hostage Crisis, 6 individuals were able to find safe harbor within the residence of the Canadian Ambassador.     


This week we are mixing up a fantastic whiskey based drink, and helping Tony Mendez make a fake movie to really get these 6 back home.   


Join us for a made up low budget sci-fi flick, high tensions, shredded documents, fake identities, cardamom syrup, and a chat about Argo.    


This week's cocktail comes from Cook In/Dine Out!

Ingredients

  • 1.5oz Canadian Whiskey 
  • .5 oz Sweet Vermouth 
  • 1oz Orange Juice 
  • 3/4oz Cardamom Syrup 
  • Orange Peel Garnish

Instructions

  •  Shake ingredients with ice and strain into rocks glass. Garnish with orange peel.

Episode 34: Apollo 13

The Apollo 13 mission is often described as NASA'a successful failure, and in this 1995 gem, Tom Hanks leads an incredible ensemble cast on a failed mission to the moon.    


This week we're mixing up a cocktail, named after this flight, the Apollo 13 and talking about coming together to save the crew of the Odyssey.    


Join us for a riff on a White Russian, fit a square filter into a round hole, fly by the moon, watch a shuttle launch, safely return to Earth, and have a chat about Apollo 13.

Ingredients

  • 2oz Rum 
  • 1/2oz Orange Liquor 
  • 1/2oz Galliano 
  • 2oz Cream 
  • Splash Grenadine

Instructions

  • Combine in glass with ice. Stir. Enjoy!

Episode 33: The Katherine & Hidden Figures

We're trying to win the space race, but we need the help of some genius minds if we're going to get there.     


This week we're heading for the stars, and we're going to get there due to the tireless and thankless work of a lot of brilliant "Hidden Figures" that shaped our course through the stars, to the moon, and beyond.   


 Join us as we celebrate Dorothy, Mary, and Katherine, talk about mathematics, take a look at what equality means for different people, aim for the stars, and have a chat about Hidden Figures.    


This week's cocktail comes from The Cocktail Maven!

Ingredients

  • .75oz Finochietto 
  • 1.5oz Gin (We used The Botanist) 
  • .75oz Grenadine (We made our own! Recipe Below) 
  • 3 dashes Lavender Bitters.5oz 


*Grenadine Syrup* 2 cups pomegranate juice, 2 cups of sugar over medium heat just until dissolved. Then stir in 1/4 cup pomegranate molasses and 1 tsp orange blossom water.

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in cocktail shaker with ice. Stir and strain into rocks glass with large ice cube.

Episode 32: The Fat Lady's Sung & Independence Day

When an alien mothership comes to a stop just outside of Earth's atmosphere, the entire world is going to have to come together to save the human race from our new common enemy.    


This week, we're throwing ingredients into a glass and taking a swig for freedom from alien invaders!    


Join us as we mix up a crazy cocktail concoction, make up a computer virus, crop dust the wrong field, go to a welcome to Earth party, and celebrate our new collective Independence Day!

Ingredients

  • 2 parts Irish Mist 
  • 1 parts Vodka 
  • 1 part St. Germain 
  • 1 part Coconut Rum 
  • 12 Parts American Ale

Instructions

  • Combine allingredients in a glass with ice. Stir.

Episode 31: Stand by Me

One last adventure, and cocktail, before we start Junior High and everything changes forever.    


This week we are joining along with Gordie, Chris, Teddy, and Vern on an adventure to find a dead body, find themselves, and cement the most important friendships.    


Join us for a delicious cocktail, campfire stories, the world's worst bullies, giant leaches, and a chat about Stand By Me.

Ingredients

  • 1oz Vodka 
  • .35 Crème de Cassis 
  • .35 Simple Syrup 
  • 1oz Cranberry Juice 
  • 1.5oz Strawberry 
  • .35oz Raspberry 
  • .15oz Blueberry 
  • .5oz Red Currant Garnish

Instructions

  • In a shaker tin muddle strawberries, raspberries, blueberries. Add vodka, creme de cassis, simple syrup, cranberry juice and ice. Shake and double strain into chilled martini glass. Garnish with red currants.

Episode 30: The Goonie & The Goonies

When a developer starts buying up houses, Mikey and his friends are faced with their parents being forced out of town, or trying to save the day. Stumbling onto a treasure map and a penchant for adventure, the Goonies are off to find their riches and save their homes.    


This week we are mixing up a fun vodka based cocktail and searching for One Eyed Willy's long lost treasure.    


Join us as we mix up a Goonie, find the lowest point of the basement, put on our slick shoes, find treasure, save our friends, steal a kiss, and have a chat about The Goonies.

Ingredients

  • 1oz Vodka 
  • 1oz Raspberry Liquor 
  • 1oz Orange Juice 
  • 1oz Cranberry Juice

Instructions

  • Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into glass with ice

Episode 29: Hai Karate & The Karate Kid

Daniel Larusso has made a move across the country. He's made some friends, found a girl that he likes, but he keeps having run-ins with Johnny and his Cobra Kai bully friends!    


This week we are getting some training from Mr. Miagi and mixing up a fantastic, sophisticated, tiki style drink.     


Join us as we trim some bonsai trees, wax on, wax off, make a Hai Karate, learn the importance of balance, become the best around, and have a chat about The Karate Kid.

Ingredients

  • 2oz Aged Rum - We used Zaya 
  • 1oz Lime Juice 
  • 1oz Orange Juice 
  • 1oz Pineapple Juice 
  • 1tsp Maple Syrup 
  • 1dash Angostura Bitters   


Lemon Wheel and Cherry Garnish

Instructions

  • Shake all ingredients with ice and strain into glass with ice. Garnish with lemon and cherry!

Episode 28: All in the Reflexes & Big Trouble in Little China

All aboard the Pork Chop Express! Is this the adventure of a lifetime, or just another day for Jack Burton in this John Carpenter cult classic?    


This week we're mixing up a fun tiki inspired cocktail and doing our best to get to the bottom of Lo Pan's master plan.    


Join us as we talk about scary monsters, evil sorcerers, Wang saving the day, and a chat about Big Trouble in Little China.

Ingredients

  • 1.5oz Watermelon Pucker 
  • 1.5oz Spiced Rum 
  • .75oz Coconut Cream 
  • .75oz Lime Juice 
  • 2.25oz Pineapple Juice

Instructions

  • Fill tall glass with crushed ice. Add all ingredients. Stir and enjoy!

Episode 27: I Carried a Watermelon Margarita & Dirty Dancing

Summer vacation is here and we are packing up the families and heading to Kellerman's resort !    


This week we're mixing up a fantastic summertime cocktail and talking about an 80's film staple.    


Join us as we carry a watermelon, practice our dance moves, try on wigs, drink amazing watermelon margaritas, and have a chat about Dirty Dancing.    


This week's cocktail comes from All Roads Lead to the Kitchen!

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Pureed Watermelon 
  • 4oz Tequila - We used Casamigos Reposado 
  • 2oz Licor 43 
  • 1Tbsp Agave Nectar 1-2Tbsp 
  • Lime Juice 
  • Frozen Watermelon Balls for Garnish (Optional)

Instructions

  • Combine ingredients in shaker with ice. Shake and strain into chilled glass. Add frozen watermelon balls. Rim with sugar or salt if you'd like!   


Using a Tbsp or Melon Baller scoop out melon balls and freeze over night.

Episode 26: Flux Capacitors & Back to the Future

Where we're going, we don't need roads.....but we do need Flux Capacitors!    


This week we're mixing up an excellent summery cocktail and joining Marty on an adventure to re-unite his parents and save his future.   

 

Join us as we make a delicious riff on a vodka lemonade, steal some plutonium, stand up to Biff, hit 88 mph, and have a chat about Back to the Future!    


This week's cocktail inspired by The Chemist!

Ingredients

  • 1.5oz Vodka 
  • 1oz St. Germain Mint 
  • 1.5oz Blackberry/Raspberry Syrup* 
  • 1oz Lemon Juice   
  • Blackberry Garnish

Instructions

  • Slap mint and add to shaker tin with other ingredients. Muddle mint a bit then add ice to shaker. Shake and dump cocktail into a cocktail glass. Gernish with a fresh Blackberry   


*For syrup, make simple syrup (1:1 water and sugar) and steep some frozen raspberries and blackberries. Bottle and store in refrigerator

Episode 25: Blood in the Water & Jaws

It's 4th of July weekend on Amity Island, the beaches are still open, and a giant shark is in the water.    


This week we're mixing up a fun summer cocktail with a bit of shark bite theater, the Blood in the Water, and taking a trip to a sleepy beach town for our summer vacation.    


Join us as we get a bigger boat, go for a midnight swim, compare our scars over some apricot brandy, and have a chat about Jaws.    


This week's cocktail comes from Mix that Drink!

Ingredients

  • .75oz Spiced Rum 
  • .75oz Silver Rum 
  • .5oz Blue Curacao 
  • 1.5oz Sour Mix 
  • Grenadine

Instructions

Combine all ingredients except grenadine into shaker with ice. Shake and dump all ingredients into glass. Drop some grenadine into the drink. Enjoy!

Episode 24: Bird of Paradise & Jurassic Park

This week we're taking a trip to an island, off the coast of Costa Rica, to "When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth."     


In this week's episode we're mixing up a new favorite tiki drink, the Bird of Paradise, from the Island Nu-Bar at Universal Studios, and talk all things dinosaurs.    


Join us as we learn about the chaos theory, hide from velociraptors, have some Chilean sea bass, and have a chat about Jurassic Park.    


Universal Studios Isla Nu-Bar Recipes    

Ingredients

  • 1.5oz Passionfruit Rum 
  • .5oz Silver Rum 
  • .5oz Passionfruit Puree 
  • 1oz Guava Puree  
  • .5oz Lime Juice 
  • .5oz Orgeat Syrup 
  • 2 dashes Aromatic Bitters 
  • 1oz Spiced Rum

Instructions

Combine all ingredients except spiced rum into shaker with ice. Shake and dump all ingredients into glass. Float the spiced rum over the top. Enjoy!

Episode 23: Blue Milk & Star Wars: A New Hope

A long time ago....we fell in love with Star Wars!    This week we are blending up a cool Tatooine treat and  breaking into our Summer Blockbuster month with one of the biggest and best of them all, Star Wars!     


Join us as we use the Force, make up some blue milk, get stuck in a trash compactor, hire a ride on the Millennium Falcon, and help out the Rebel Alliance.    


Blue Milk recipe comes from Skytalkers!

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Oat Milk 
  • 2 Cups Ice
  •  2 Tbsp Lime Juice
  •  2 Tbsp Creme de Coconut 
  • 2 Cups Frozen Pineapple and Mango
  • Blue Food Coloring 
  • 4oz White Rum - We used Bacardi (Optional)

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!

Episode 22: Rosebud, Tequila, and the Oscars

It's Oscar night! We're running through the list of winners and giving our reactions to the 2021 Academy Awards! 


Join us as we go over our Oscar party cocktail recipes, tally up the final votes, and talk all things Oscar night!


Tequila Old Fashioned recipe comes from The Spruce Eats.

Rosebud

  • 1oz Gin - We used Hendrick's
  • .5oz Rose Liquor
  • 2oz Rose Champagne
  • Small rosebud for garnish


Combine gin and rose liquor in a shaker tin. Strain into a chilled coupe glass and top with the champagne or sparkling wine. Garnish with flower petals or rose bud.

Tequila Old-Fashioned

  • 3 slices of Nectarine
  • 2 Bing Cherries
  • 2 Dashes Aromatic Bitters
  • 1 Bar spoon Agave Nectar
  • 3oz Reposado Tequila - We used Casamigos


Muddle 2 slices nectarine, 1 bing cherry, bitters, and agave nectar in rocks glass. Fill with ice and add tequila. Stir. Garnish with nectarine and bing cherry.

Episode 20: Tom Collins & The Trial of the Chicago 7

Nominated for 6 Academy Awards, fast edits, incredible acting, and a stunning script sets the stage for this retelling of the  Chicago 7.


This week we mix up a summertime gin cocktail and discuss how we feel about this film's Oscar chances.


Join us as we try out the Tom Collins, talk about history, get into our Oscar picks, and discuss The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Ingredients

  • 2oz Gin - We used Hendrick's Midsummer Solstice
  • 1oz Lemon Juice
  • 1/2oz Simple Syrup
  • Club Soda


Lemon Wheel and Maraschino Cherry for garnish.

Instructions

Mix the gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup in a highball or collins glass with ice. Top with club soda.

Episode 19: Whiskey Amour & Lost in Translation

Bob and Charlotte have both landed in Tokyo and are feeling isolated and alone as they try to navigate their relationships, and find out what it means to feel lost in a foreign land.


In this week's episode we're diving into some Japanese Whiskey, and talking about one of our favorite Golden Globe winners of the last 20 years.


Join us as we try to decipher a whisper, mix up a  Whiskey Amour, fight with an elliptical machine, enjoy Suntory time, and have a chat about Lost in Translation.

This week's recipe comes from Cinema Sips!

Ingredients

  • 2oz Whiskey - We used Suntory Toki Whisky
  • 1oz Grapefruit Juice
  • 1oz Honey Syrup*


Grapefruit peel for garnish


*Dissolve Honey in hot water. We used 2/1 honey to water. Cool and store in refrigerator.

Instructions

Shake the whiskey, grapefruit juice, honey syrup with ice. Double strain into a martini or coupe glass. Enjoy!   

Episode 18: Dubonnet Cocktails & Tootsie

Michael is having a tough time landing the acting job of his dreams, but his desire to raise some extra money to get a play off the ground is going to throw him into a completely different role.


This week we'll be mixing up a classic cocktail as we try to figure out the line between trying to stay employed while deceiving the ones you love. 


Join us  for a Dubonnet cocktail and have a chat about the Oscar nominated, comedy classic, "Tootsie."

Ingredients

  • 2oz Gin
  • 2oz Dubonnet Rouge
  • Dash Orange Bitters


Lemon Peel for Garnish

Instructions

 Shake the gin, dubonnet, and bitters with ice. Strain into martini glass. Garnish with lemon peel.
