Episode 17: Pimm's Cup & American Hustle

Irving is a con-man, but when he gets caught up in the middle of a FBI sting operation, Irving's going to have to navigate who is conning who, and how to get out of it.  


In this week's episode, we get ourselves a bottle of Pimm's No. 1, and talk about a modern ensemble classic.  


Join us as we mix up a Pimm's Cup, try out our new science ovens, misplace 2 million dollars, and have a chat about American Hustle.     

Ingredients

  • 2oz Pimms No. 
  • 1 .5oz lemon juice 
  • Top with ginger ale or sparkling lemonade 


Garnish with Mint, strawberry, cucumber, lemon wheels, lime, orange wheels…basically anything.  

Episode 16: Whiskey Sours & Once Upon A Time...

Rick Dalton is trying his best to keep it together and keep his career going in this Hollywood fairy tale.  


In this week's episode we are trying out Rick's favorite cocktail and heading to the Hollywood Hills, to see how movies are made, and how the changing landscape is affecting these fading stars.  


Join us as we make 3 versions of the whiskey sour, drive through Los Angeles, take a detour to Italy, and see how Quentin Tarantino reimagines 1969 Hollywood.

  • 1.5 oz Lemon Juice  
  • 75 oz Simple Syrup  


Shaken with ice then dumped Garnish with Maraschino Cherry

  • 1 Egg White

Dry shake, then shake with ice. Strain into chilled glass Garnish with Amarena Cherry

Episode 15: French 75's & Casablanca

Rick's never stuck his neck out for anyone, but will a reunion with Ilsa, his former love, make Rick change his ways? 


In this episode we're mixing up a champagne cocktail as we follow Rick from Paris, down the refugee trail to Casablanca, where he's living his life, running a gin joint, and trying to get over his lost love.  


Join us this week to mix up a French 75, get our papers in order, and help Victor and Ilsa make their way out of Casablanca!

Ingredients

  • 1.5oz gin – we used Broker’s which is a London Dry Gin 
  • .5oz lemon juice, fresh squeezed is best 
  • .25oz simple syrup 


Top with champagne, we used taittenger, and lovely twist of lemon peel. 

Instructions

Combine ingredients in a champagne flute and top with champagne.

Episode 14: Moet Belles & Golden Globes

Awards season and the Golden Globes are upon us!  In this episode we're making up a Moët Belle (re-branded Drink the Movies Belle) and seeing which one of us made the correct picks. 

 

Join us this week as we go searching for champagne, compare our picks, and talk all about the 78th Golden Globes!  


This week's cocktail comes to us from Town and Country Magazine.

Ingredients

  • 1 oz of Cachaca 
  • 0.75 oz of mango juice 
  • 0.5 oz of ginger syrup 
  • 0.25 oz of fresh lime juice 
  • 2.5 oz of Moët Brut Impérial


Instructions

Shake all ingredients except Champagne with ice and strain into coupe glass. Float Champagne on top. 

Episode 13: Sea Breezes & French Kisses

Kate has her life planned out, but when her fiancé Charlie travels to Paris without her, Kate's left to go on an adventure of self-discovery, and learns to follow her own passions along the way.


This week we mix up a beachy cocktail classic, the Sea Breeze. Kate doesn't speak French, but she knows exactly what she wants after spending some time with Luc, and orders this drink seaside when she's confronting Charlie and standing up for herself.


Join us as we smuggle grape vines (and necklaces) to southern France, get over our fear of flying, and have a chat about the 1995 romantic comedy classic, French Kiss.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz Vodka 
  • 3oz Cranberry Juice
  • 1.5 oz Grapefruit Juice
  • Lime Wheel Garnish


Instructions

Combine ingredients in glass with ice.

Episode 12: The Old Fashioned & Crazy, Stupid, Love

When Emily tells Cal that she wants a divorce, how is a he expected to move on from the love of his life? Enter Jacob who decides to take Cal under his wing and teach him the ways of a single guy in the city.


Things don't always go as planned though, as Cal realizes what he really wants is to fight for the one he loves, and Jacob learns that true love does exists after an unexpected night with Hannah.


This week we put on the perfect song, use the perfect pick-up lines, and mix up the perfect cocktail. Join us for an Old Fashioned and a chat about Crazy, Stupid, Love.

Ingredients

  • sugar cube
  • 2 dashes bitters – angustora or dealers choice
  • 2oz whiskey. We used whistle pig “Piggy Back” 6 year rye
  • Orange Peel
  • Cherry is optional but our awesome friend Emily made some great bourbon soaked cherries so we threw one of those in too


Instructions

Add sugar and bitters to glass and muddle. Add large ice cube, whiskey, garnishes and enjoy!

Episode 11: Vodka, Chardonnay & Bridget Jones's Diary

Bridget Jones has just turned 32, hasn't had much luck in the romance department, and decides she needs to get her life on track.


This week we're mixing up a cocktail that would be right up Bridget's alley as she tries her best to stick to her New Year's resolutions, a raspberry cider chardonnay cocktail.


Join us for this weeks episode where we chat about Bridget Jones's Diary, choose Chaka Khan, and find the importance of loving yourself first, and finding someone that can love you just the way you are.


This week's cocktail comes from Dine Dream Discover.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 triple sec - Harlequin
  • 1 oz vodka - titos
  • 2 ounces chardonnay – French/less buttery Joseph Drouhin
  • 3 ounces apple raspberry cider 1911


Sprig of rosemary and raspberries for garnish

Instructions

Shake and serve over ice.

Episode 10: I'll Have What She's Having & Harry Meets Sally

When Harry Met Sally... they were setting off on an 18 hour carpool, but this was just the beginning of their story.


In this week's episode we make up a fantastic gin cocktail that takes its inspiration from that famous scene where Sally explains to Harry that he might not be quite as good as he thinks.


Join us this week for an I'll Have What She's Having, and a love story about two friends who find what they really want in life is right in front of them.


This week's recipe is the creation of Ian Hardie from the Huckleberry Bar in Brooklyn, NY

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 parts Caorunn – Scottish Gin - we used Rock Rose
  • 1/2 parts St. Germain
  • 1/2 parts Aperol
  • 3/4 parts Lemon Juice
  • 2 Dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • Sweet Vermouth


Grapefruite peel for garnish

Instructions

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into coupe glass. Garnish with grapefruit peel.

Episode 9: Sweet Vermouth, Rocks, Twist & Groundhog Day

Phil is annoyed by his annual trip to Punxsutawney to cover the Groundhog Day celebration, but little does he know that he'll have to figure out how to change his ways if he wants this day to end.


This week we make up a cocktail that reminds of of a sunset in Rome, a sweet vermouth on the rocks, with a twist! This is Rita's favorite drink and it's quickly becoming ours too.


Join us for a simple cocktail, groundhogs, and a story about redoing your days to get them right.

Ingredients

  • Sweet Vermouth


Lemon peel for garnish

Instructions

Add sweet vermouth to rocks glass with a large ice cube. Express and garnish with lemon peel

Episode 8: Zoltar Zingers & Big

If you are in a hurry to grow up, see if you can find a Zoltar Speaks machine and make a wish.

  • 8 oz ginger ale
  • 1.5 oz vodka (optional)
  • ¼ oz grenadine
  • ½ oz lemon juice
  • 4 dashes Angostura bitters

Instructions

Add ingredients to a highball glass with ice. Top with ginger ale

Episode 7: Miracle Pills & The Princess Bride

If you are attempting to rescue your beloved Buttercup from the clutches of Prince Humperdink, but you've unfortunately been mostly dead all day, there's only one cure. A Miracle Pill!


This week, we make up a a delicious chocolatey, coffee based cocktail from one of our favorite YouTube cocktail channels, and a chat about Westley's adventures to save his true love.

Ingredients

  • .5 oz Amaretto
  • .5 oz Bénédictine
  • 1 oz Bourbon
  • 2.5 oz Cold Brew Coffee
  • Egg White


Orange Twist & Fresh Grated Dark Chocolate

Instructions

Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake, then add ice and shake again. Garnish with orange twist and fresh grated chocolate.

Episode 6: 7&7's and Saturday Night Fever

 If you want to do your best dancing, you'll need a 7&7 and a trip to the 2001 Odyssey Club with Tony Manero.


In this episode we make up a classic bar scene cocktail, the 7&7 and dive into the classic film, Saturday Night Fever.

  • 2 oz Seagrams 7 Crown Whiskey
  • 7-Up

Instructions

Combine Seagrams 7 and 7 Up into a a highball glass filled with ice. Serve with a lemon wheel for maximum dancing abilities. 

Episode 5: Gin & Tonics & 2020 in Review

 This week on Drink the Movies, we're mixing up our favorite cocktail of the year, a Gin & Tonic, and talking about all things 2020!

Episode 4: Flaming Rum Punch & It's a Wonderful Life

 If you're an angel, trying to get your wings, sometimes you could use a nice warm drink to help you with your task.  In this episode we make up a bowl of flaming rum punch good enough for any Angel, second class.


Join us as we make up this delicious winter punch and talk about one of the all time Christmas classics, It's A Wonderful Life!


The inspiration for this weeks recipe comes from https://cocktailsofthemovies.com/

Ingredients

  • 6 oranges studded with cloves - We used a mix of large and small oranges
  • 375 ml rum - We used Muddy River Distilling Queen Charlotte's Reserve
  • 375 ml cognac - We used Martell VS
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon and 1 tsp nutmeg
  • 20 oz warmed cider
  • 16 oz hot water
  • 12 oz orange juice
  • juice from 6 lemons

Instructions

Push the cloves into the oranges all over and bake oranges at 350f for about 30 minutes. While the oranges are in the oven, warm the water and the apple cider.


Combine sugar, rum, cognac in your heat proof punch bowl, add oranges and *optional* ignite booze. (Make sure you have clear overhead space, have a fire extinguisher handy, and take the proper precautions!) After lit, sprinkle on spices and enjoy the show!


Once flame begins to subside, carefully pour in remaining ingredients. Once fire has been extinguished, ladle into mugs and enjoy!

Episode 3: Hot Chocolate & The Polar Express

 The train ride to the North Pole is quite the adventure, and the best way to take in the journey is with a cup of hot chocolate!


In this episode, we make up a delicious batch of spiked hot cholate, and talk about what it takes for our hero to find his belief in the magic of Christmas.


Join us as we climb aboard for some hot, hot...we got it, hot chocolate, and a chat about The Polar Express!

Ingredients

  • 4 Cups Whole Milk (We used 2 cups whole milk, 2 cups half & half)
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup bittersweet or semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped bar
  • 1/4  tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

Place milk, cocoa powder and sugar in a small saucepan. Heat over medium/medium-low heat, whisking frequently, until warm (but not boiling). Add chocolate chips and whisk constantly until the chocolate chips melt and distribute evenly into the milk. Whisk in vanilla extract, serve immediately. 


We added 1 oz of Jack Daniel's Fire, (Cinnamon Whiskey) but you can add any flavor you want!

Episode 2: Irish Coffee - Elf

 Buddy the Elf loves everything with syrup, so when he gets sent to work in the mailroom and sees a co-worker spiking his coffee, Buddy is eager to try putting syrup into his own coffee.


In this episode we make our own coffee with syrup, also known as, Irish Coffee, and talk about Buddies adventures. From the North Pole, to reuniting with his Father, and helping him make his way off the naughty list. Join us for a coffee with syrup and a chat about Elf!


This recipe comes from the famous Buena Vista Cafe in San Francisco, CA. Making one of the most famous cocktails since 1952.

Ingredients

  •  Sugar Cubes
  • Coffee
  • 1.5 oz Irish Whiskey - We used Tullamore Dew
  • Whipping Cream

Instructions

  • Warm your cup while you brew the coffee. We used a french press, but however you make your coffee will work. 
  • Put 2 sugar cubes (or 2 teaspoons) of sugar into your coffee cup, then fill with 1.5 oz of Irish Whiskey and top off with your coffee.
  • Lightly whip the whipping cream and spoon over the top.

Episode 1: Eggnog - National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation

When we watch National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, we can't help but feel the need to drink a healthy mug or two of eggnog alongside Clark as his perfect family Christmas starts to fall apart. 


Brian and Michaela talk about the Griswold family, and how this movie is a part of their holiday traditions.

Ingredients

  • 12 large eggs
  • 1 pound sugar
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 pint half-and-half
  • 1 pint whole milk
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 1 cup Jamaican rum - We used Smith & Cross
  • 1 cup cognac - We used Courvoisier
  • 1 cup bourbon - We used Four Roses 
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  • Separate eggs, you'll only need the yolks
  • Whisk together the egg yolks, sugar, and nutmeg until the mixture lightens to a pale yellow and the mixture falls in a ribbon
  • In a seperate container combine the alcohol, dairy, and pinch of salt
  • Slowly whisk the dairy mixture into the egg mixture
  • Store in an air-tight container and enjoy in a few weeks
